CAROLS by Candlelight events date back to the 1950s in Ballarat and the tradition continues.

More than 10,000 people are expected to roll out their picnic rugs at Mars Stadium on Sunday, 18 December to hear classic Christmas tunes at Ballarat Carols by Candlelight.

Opera Australia’s Jason Wasley is back to headline, alongside professional musical theatre performers Sarah Landy and Brent Trotter.

A local orchestra and cast of singers will bring carols to full-scale life too, with The Drum Line performing an encore of memorable 2021 number, Little Drummer Boy.

“This opportunity to come together in the spirit of the festive season is vitally important for our community, and Ballarat can be guaranteed another magical night of music, highlighted by exceptional local talent,” Organising committee president Matt Hustwaite said.

“Ballarat Carols by Candlelight is more than just the music, it’s a wonderful celebration of our community, talented musicians, diverse small businesses in the Christmas market, and the compassionate supporters of those in need who are behind the local charities we raise funds for.”

Carols is a free event, but donations given throughout the evening are set to benefit Uniting Ballarat, St Vincent de Paul Society, Anglicare, and the Salvation Army, who expect to support 5000 families in need this Christmas.

Gates to the concert area will open at 4pm, following the on-site SpringFest Christmas Market, which gets underway at 2pm and is an opportunity to support local small businesses, and community partners of SpringFest.

Kryal Castle’s dragons, Kelly Sports, and Ballarat Centre of the Music and Arts will be part of pre-show fun and entertainment.
