WITHIN a week, Ballarat Carols by Candlelight’s committee has gone from seeking support to stage the concert, to finding a Christmas miracle.

Following an urgent appeal for financial backing from businesses across the region ahead of Carols on the evening of Sunday 22 December, the committee has secured key sponsors for 2024 and beyond.

Vehicle rental business Sixt has signed on as presenting partner for at least three years, Australian Catholic University Ballarat is a gold sponsor, Haymes Paint is a silver sponsor, and Hot Temple, MOR Accountants, the Ballarat West Rotary Op Shop and AW Nicholson are also backing the cause.

“We are truly delighted” said Carols secretary Carolyn Bennett. “This funding ensures that Ballarat Carols by Candlelight will be going ahead as planned and is secure for the coming years.

“This event has become a cherished tradition, showcasing local talent and uniting the community in festival cheer. We think that’s something worth fighting for.”

Sixt’s Andrew Overall said supporting Carols is to back the community.

“After becoming a grandparent last year, my views on Christmas have definitely changed, and we’re so pleased to be able to give back to the community and help support this feel-good event,” he said.

ACU Ballarat campus Dean Professor Bridget Aitchison said Carols is a way for the uni to engage and connect with Ballarat in another way.

“This is such a natural fit for our ethos and what we stand for,” she said.

Ballarat Carols draws an audience of about 10,000 people to Mars Stadium annually. The he not-for-profit, non-secular and free event also aims to raise funds for people in need at Christmas time.

“The committee emphasises that every donation, no matter the size, will play a crucial role in ensuring the event’s viability and continued tradition,” Ms Bennett said.
