Celebrating our first heritage

HERITAGE Weekend will feature new and exciting celebrations of Ballarat and Australia’s indigenous history and culture.

Armstrong Street North’s off-street carpark will be transformed into an Aboriginal Film Festival, showcasing biographies of political activists and other short films. The Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute’s Humffray Room will be home to an Aboriginal Cultural Exhibition, immersing visitors in stories of the nation’s first peoples, their histories and present-day contributions in Ballarat.

Federation University’s Aboriginal Historian, Dr Fred Cahir, City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh, and Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, Deanne Gilson and Tammy Gilson are excited for the community to get involved.
