THE Rotary Club of Ballarat’s third seasonal event celebrating the success of local women was held in a fitting spring location last weekend.

Forty people, including many women in community leadership, attended a tea party and listened to live music at Ascot’s Lambley Gardens.

The property, and 1860s home, are owned by renowned painter Criss Canning, who hosted guests in her private garden, amongst the blossom trees, where she gains creative inspiration.

“It was a joyous occasion, and I was very honoured to be part of it,” she said.

“It’s always great to celebrate everybody’s success… and to see women supporting and promoting each other. I feel very blessed and privileged to have worked hard and achieved what I have.

“At times it was hard being a single mother, a serious painter, and jumping through hoops to continue what I loved… but I encourage women to fight for what they really want.”

Over almost 31 years, the separate garden spaces have been developed, many of which were established to celebrate the birth of 12 grandchildren.

Ballarat Aero Club chair Jan Stoneman recently joined the Rotary Club of Ballarat having met members at the Celebrating Women’s Success events.

“It is really, truly all about celebrating our success as women, but it’s not solely just women who come along, with male partners and friends also attending,” she said.

“It’s fantastic meeting and gaining knowledge from a lot of people I wouldn’t ordinarily have met. I’m really honoured to be a part of it all.”
