Charity cycling team has Allsorts planned for 2025 campaign
CHARITY cycling team, Jimmy’s Licorice Allsorts, will launch their fifth Murray to Moyne fundraising campaign on World Cancer Day, 4 February.
To be held at Showbiz Cinemas Ballarat at 7pm, the event will include a screening of film Conquering Skin Cancer, with its two directors, Mike Hill and Sue Collins present and participating in a question and answer session.
In April, 18 Allsorts members between the ages of 17 to 73 will ride from Echuca to Port Fairy in just over 24 hours, with a goal of raising $50,000 for Ballarat’s own Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
“The intention of having the launch on World Cancer Day is to highlight the importance of providing hope to people with cancer, and that there can be better outcomes,” said team founder and lead Jim Waight.
“That’s particularly related to our fundraising for research which improves the way cancer will be managed.
“Our ride theme is ‘Ride for a Reason,’ and each rider is dedicating their ride to someone or a group of people who have experienced a cancer journey as a survivor, or in memory of someone who has passed away.
“This year, our uniform will be white, and on our shorts there will be the names of those we’re dedicating the ride to, to inspire us.”
Since the initiative began, the cycling team has raised $200,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute and covered a total of over 7000 kilometres.
Over the last four years, a total of 30 different cyclists have been part of the Allsorts team.
