Charity efforts take centre stage
THE Ballarat Commandery of The Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller is partnering with BLOC Music Theatre for a night of song, dance and fundraising.
This year the two organisations are supporting Ballarat Hospice Care on the opening night of BLOC’s production of Mamma Mia!, and Chevalier Peter Morey said it was important to support their work.
“I think they’re one of the most worthy charities that people look to for end of life situations and they’re a very highly held group and do a wonderful job,” he said.
“We think it’s a great idea and BLOC is delighted to be involved because it wants to support the community and this is a way for them to do that practically.”
A donation of $5 will be taken from the sale of each opening night ticket to support the palliative care organisation and guests can also enjoy pre-show drinks and nibbles.
The OSJ has a long history of supporting hospice care dating back to the 11th century and Mr Morey said, “It’s gone on since then in varying ways through the ages.” Today the group has worked with Ballarat Hospice Care for around three years.
“We’ve had this excellent relationship since,” he said.
Tickets to the opening night charity event and pre-performance party are open to all. Contact [email protected] for more information.
