Student nurse named state’s best
THE Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Victorian Branch has presented their 2021 Nurse Award to Federation TAFE nursing student Cheyenne Kemsley.
A 22-year-old personal care assistant, Ms Kemsley is currently completing her diploma of nursing and has been acknowledged for her high-quality care provision, professionalism, communication and social skills, and grasp of ethical practice.
“I chose to do nursing, as I’ve always had a passion for making a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
“To be able to support people and their families at their most vulnerable times is such an honour. To receive this award is such a huge achievement.
“It makes me so proud to see how all my hard work has paid off.”
The Federation TAFE nursing faculty has described Ms Kemsley as a mindful and highly emotionally intelligent person with great initiative, trustworthiness, growing confidence, a drive to provide dignity and rights to her patients, and clinical knowledge that is strengthening well.
A previous graduate of the certificate III in individual support course, she developed an interest in nursing after caring for her mother Gloria, who had broken her leg.
FedUni pro vice-chancellor vocational education and training and TAFE CEO Liam Sloan said Ms Kemsley’s passion for and commitment to her studies and practical work is excellent.
“Nursing is such a vital part of our community, and we are thrilled that our students are recognised for their efforts and professionalism,” he said.
“It’s a tribute to their commitment and dedication, and to our high-quality teachers that they receive such recognition.”
Ms Kemsley received her certificate and a $200 cash prize earlier in the month in Melbourne. She will study a bachelor of nursing in 2022 at Federation University.
