Sustainable leaders sought for City
AS the City of Ballarat seeks to transition towards a more sustainable circular waste economy, expressions of interest from those keen to be community leaders of the movement are now open.
A new 10-person team, to be named the Circular Ballarat Champions, will work with the municipality within the Waste to Wellbeing program.
They will seek to support and educate the community in embracing the circular economy mindset and practices.
Designed to benefit the environment, a circular economy is all about waste reduction and re-use, refurbishing, repairing, and reselling, rather than buying something new and using more resources unnecessarily.
City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the initiative will encourage the municipality to be more conscious of sustainability and reduce their waste footprint.
“To be able to find opportunities to bring best practice circular economy solutions to the Ballarat community is priceless,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have such fantastic community participation in Ballarat to make a powerful contribution to Ballarat’s economy and environment for future generations.
“The Champions will form an influential group to lead circular economy activities in Ballarat and help the community to find opportunities to convert waste to commodity.”
Educational and networking opportunities will be made available to the group once they are selected.
Expressions of interests can be made at bit.ly/3I9bNWC, and they close this Sunday, 6 March.
