City adopts events realignment
AN announcement by the City of Ballarat has confirmed a restructure of its bureaucracy, with the aim improving the delivery of events and tourism offerings in the municipality.
First mooted in late January, the realignment centres around a new department called Economy, Experience and Commonwealth Games, and combines the City’s tourism, arts, and events staff.
The changes were proposed by CEO Evan King late last month, who said they will improve the municipality’s events capability in the leadup to the 2026 Games.
“The structural realignment will deliver greater long-term benefits for our community and ensure the Commonwealth Games provides us with a lasting legacy,” he said.
“I am confident that the incorporation of this new directorate will deliver greater long-term benefits for all staff and equip us to be better prepared to respond to our community’s needs.
“Recruitment will now commence for a director of Economy, Experience and Commonwealth Games.
“The current organisational structure will remain in place until the commencement of the new director.”
A statement from the City of Ballarat said before the restructuring was confirmed feedback was sought from municipal employees.
A previous City of Ballarat restructuring occurred in 2021 shortly after Mr King was appointed to the CEO role.
