Club celebrates two decades
LAST Friday, the Ballarat Life Activities Club celebrated twenty years of providing social and leisure activities for community members.
The club was formed in 2004 from a range of groups based at the Eastwood Leisure Centre and it now has more than 100 members.
The aim of the initiative is to help older members of the community stay active and be social, and there are more than 20 clubs around Victoria.
“The main benefit is friendship, and of course the exercise as well, but the best part is the friendship,” said Peter Cottell, club president.
“As out moto says, life’s better together, so that’s what we find.”
Activities on offer include walks, exercise classes, trips away and meals out.
“I joined when I retired which was about five years ago,” said Mr Cottell.
“I mainly enjoy the walking activities as we walk about twice a week.”
Mayor Cr Des Hudson said the club plays an important role in keeping the Ballarat community active and connected.
“From a Ballarat perspective, we like to think that we age well, and aging well is about how we stay connected,” he said.
“You become that surrogate family through those regular activities of the different activities that you have been doing.”
Currently, yearly membership to the club costs $30 for a single or $50 for a couple. To find out more, visit lifeballarat.org.au
