BALLARAT Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation has collaborated with Haymes Paint to ensure wildlife have adequate nesting boxes.

The boxes are made from hardwood or other non-treated materials and paint is essential to ensuring they have longevity once installed outside.

“The purpose of this project is two-fold; one we support our member carers with physical tools that support our wildlife, easing some of the financial burden off them, and we get to engage with members of our community to help educate them about the pressures that our wildlife and carers face on a daily basis,” said Melissa Morey, president of BWRAC.

When wildlife is taken into rehabilitation they may lose their nesting spot, and these places are in high demand.

When wildlife tries to return to their home they may be displaced, however nesting boxes provide a safe space for released animals.

An animal will live in its nesting box while they are in rehabilitation, so they are familiar with it before they are released.

“Our wildlife needs us to have a better approach to living in harmony with them,” said Ms Morey.

“We need to better co-exist with our wildlife, or we facing not having any.”
