EXCITEMENT is in the air, as the Haddon Community Learning Centre takes on new day-to-day administration.

The volunteer committee of management was originally responsible for strategic planning and oversight of operations but will now take on a more hands-on role within the centre.

Committee of management chair Bill Elder said the group has a range of improvements in plan for the building.

“We’re looking to possibly knock down a wall or two and rearrange the smaller offices into spaces that are more useful for courses and meetings for larger groups,” he said.

“We’re in a really good, local position to make sure that the building is clean and in good operation. We’re hoping that those improvements will come into fruition with us being there.”

Despite the change in management, long-term tenants such as the Haddon kindergarten and Church of Christ are still in operation.

All courses and classes are still available to the public, with hopes to introduce a nature studies course, to act as a precursor for higher education in natural resources management.

Mr Elder said he encourages people to volunteer for the committee of management, as to help provide all sorts of activities for the town.

“Whether it’s a course, social group, yoga or music, there’s something going on here all the time,” he said. “It’s a place where you can be involved and feel good, knowing that you’re helping the community.”

The Golden Plains Shire council, the original managers of the centre, will retain ownership of the building.
