AN event to support foster caring families and children was recently hosted by welfare agency Cafs at accommodation and outdoor recreation venue Cave Hill Creek.

Nearly 90 people attended the day which has become a tradition on the local foster caring calendar.

Carers got a few hours of respite, shared a barbecue, had a go at activities, and were able to meet with likeminded people.

“This fun family event delivers significant benefit to our families and children,” said Cafs manager of brand development Serena Eldridge.

“We’ve already booked the 2024 Carer Day and will be seeking support to make it another memorable day of joy, connection and support for our out of home care families.

“The reality is that events like this are not covered under existing funding agreements.

“The Carer Day simply would not be possible without the support of Community Bank Buninyong.”

According to recruitment service Fostering Connections, there has been a regional foster carer shortage in recent years.

Less than 100 accredited foster carers were active in the Central Highlands region in 2022, while more than 500 young people on average in the foster care system in the western Victorian region.
