Creative wanted for gallery space
CREATIVE Ballarat is looking for a new artist in residence for the Lydiard Street Arts Hub.
Expressions of interest to fill the position are now open for the space located between the Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Post Office Gallery.
Operating costs are covered by the City of Ballarat and expressions of interest are open for a three or six-month residency.
The space is designed for a visual artist, maker, performer, crafter, writer, designer or creative to have a dedicated space to work on their practice.
Mayor Cr Des Hudson encouraged creatives in Ballarat to take up the opportunity.
“Be confident, be willing to have a go and be willing to showcase what your talent is because by doing that you never know where your journey will take you,” he said.
“Every famous artist had a starting point, and this may be an opportunity for an emerging artist to do the same.”
The Arts Hub makes up part of Ballarat’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Craft And Folk Art, and Cr Hudson said creativity is important to the region.
“It’s the creative aspects which breathe the heart and soul and life into our community,” he said.
“Our creatives are normally the heartbeat that make us want to come out and participate in life.
“It’s part of that rich tapestry that makes Ballarat such a great place.”
Applications close Sunday 17 September with more information available at the Creative Ballarat website.
