A NEW exhibition in Unicorn Lane is focusing on the vibrancy of food.

Culinary Canvas: A Feast of Food by Mariah McDonald is a series of paintings which aim ignite viewers tastebuds.

“I just had inspiration from starting off with the egg and I tried a new technique where I used a square paint brush to block out the colours,” said McDonald.

“It is actually my first-time using acrylic, I am usually a watercolour artist.”

When McDonald started creating the works, she said she realised she loved using acrylic paint.

“I found a love for acrylic and the bright colours and I just couldn’t stop making food,” she said. “I tried going back to watercolour and I actually found that a lot more difficult to manage.”

This is McDonald’s first solo exhibition after her recent graduation from Oxygen College.

“I feel very privileged and just very excited to see what people’s reactions were when I was setting up the exhibition,” she said.

McDonald has ambitions of being able to support herself through selling her work and she is beginning to undertake business course.

“I am hoping to achieve more sales because I would like to be a professional artist,” she said.

“This year I am actually going to be doing a business course, so I am going to make a professional business plan with art and try and apply for more exhibitions.”

Culinary Canvas: A Feast of Food is on until Thursday 7 March.
