UNDER the full moon traditional owners, performers, dancers and storytellers will be sharing their history as part of Sovereign Hill’s Corrobboree by Full Moon event.

The event is held in partnership with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and the City of Ballarat.

Corrobborees were a form of entertainment for miners in the 1850s but on this occasion the event will allow traditional owners to come together and share their cultures.

“We are excited to be given the opportunity to tell our stories through song and dance,” said spokesperson from the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Corporation, Tammy Gilson.

Traditional custodians will perform a welcome to country and there will be a smoking ceremony and cleansing of the space before the performance.

“We want to lead the way for the younger generation as they walk beside us, we want to teach and guide them and empower them as young Wadawurrung leaders of the future,” said Ms Gilson

“The Corroboree is a collaborative approach to showcase our identity and strengthen our wellbeing as Wadawurrung people.

“Working in collaboration with Sovereign Hill to strengthen the presence of Wadawurrung in the community is positive.

“My hope for the attendees is that they hold space for us that is respectful and really enjoy and embrace the event. It’s pretty rare to do something like this together.”

Corrobboree by Full Moon is set for Saturday, 6 May and visit for tickets bit.ly/444BItP.
