DO you know how to cook the perfect spud?

Head along to the Dean Hall and Mechanics’ Institute’s big spud dinner next month, where owner of Black Cat Truffles, Liam Downes and other special guests, will be judging the best cooked dish.

The event is a fundraiser for the hall, and attendees will have a three-course dinner, drinks and music with raffle prizes and kids’ activities also on offer.

For those who grow their own spuds, there will also be a weigh-in for the biggest potato.

“We just hope to get locals together to have a bit of fun,” said committee secretary, Claire Montano.

“We are hoping to raise money for our much-needed exterior paint work as the boards are starting to deteriorate.

“Every opportunity we can get to fundraise to keep the hall functioning and as a community hub is going to be important

to have it alive for years to come.”

Ms Montano said the hall is an important building for the farming community and with a fresh coat of paint, it will be more attractive for big events.

“It will keep the hall longstanding and we will continue to be able to host events like the big spud dinner,” she said.

“We will also be able to use it for celebrations like weddings and birthday parties.”

The big spud dinner will be on Friday 21 June from 5.30pm with tickets for sale at the door.
