INITIAL works on a new competition-grade gymnasium at Delacombe Primary School are underway.

Principal Scott Phillips said both the school and the wider community was fortunate to receive the addition of a first-class stadium on campus.

“We see it as not just a win for our students and staff but also for the Delacombe community,” he said.

“We have always seen the stadium as an integral part of the Delacombe Reserve, which is accessed by so many community members and sporting groups.

“We look forward to its opening in April 2021 and developing a strong sporting culture in Delacombe.”

Mr Phillips was joined last week by Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison to inspect the construction works as part of the $6.5 million project.

In addition to the competition-grade indoor gymnasium, the capital works will also include a canteen, changing rooms, toilets, offices and landscaping.

Ms Addison said the brand-new gymnasium will be a place for sport and school gatherings and will be welcomed by the Delacombe community.

“Now more than ever the Victorian Government is investing in Ballarat jobs and delivering the educational infrastructure that our kids, parents and school communities deserve,” she said.

Ballarat building company H.Troon has been tasked with the project.
