THE State Government has released early designs for accessibility upgrades to Ballarat Station.

The $50 million upgrade will include a pedestrian overpass with passenger lifts and stairs to both platforms.

The northern entry of the station will be upgraded to include a new ramp and stairs, and improved lighting and tactiles

The aim is to make it easier for people a disability or with prams and luggage to move around the station and use public transport while protecting heritage aspects.

“Not only will the overpass and lifts improve access across the rail line, it will also be designed in a manner that respects the significant heritage values of the station precinct,” said Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison.

Preliminary engineering and geotechnical work have been completed to find the best place for the overpass, and its design includes an element of transparency to maintain view lines.

The northern side of the station will see a new ramp and stairs.

“The upgrades will ensure passengers can better access the station and change platforms, making it easier for people to catch a train,” said the State Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Danny Pearson.

“This investment will make sure Ballarat Station is more accessible, for more people, which is a huge win for the community.”

Ballarat residents can have a say on aspects of the design on the Engage Victoria website.
