Disco to celebrate all abilities
A LOCAL disability support service is holding a Halloween disco at the end of the month to bring the community together.
Unbeatable Abilities Support Services was started last year and seeks to celebrate people’s abilities.
The disco is for children aged under 18 and will include Halloween themed games, door prizes and prizes for best dressed.
Justin Bates, the owner of Unbeatable Abilities said he started the company to give people with disabilities more choice after his own experience.
“We started in 2022 because I used to use disability support help myself and I wanted to give back,” he said.
“The NDIS have gone a long way in helping participants have a little more choice because for me when I was younger it wasn’t there as much.
“Now people can choose a support worker and what type of hours and it helps people feel like they have more control in their life.”
The Halloween disco is an opportunity for the community to come together, make connections and have fun.
“We have a hub and we wanted somewhere where people can come down, have a lot of fun and meet new people,” said Mr Bates.
“It’s daunting for a lot of our participants and a lot of them are shy, but we wanted them to meet new people and get along.
“It’s also gets them out of their home if they might be doing nothing.”
The event is the organisation’s first disco and into the future Mr Bates said he hopes to hold more.
“In the future we’d like to have more themed events and start up a themed night once a week where we can come in fancy dress with music to match the theme,” he said.
“We want to listen to participants to give back to them and give them something to do to look forward to.”
The disco will take place from 8pm on Saturday 28 October at 3 Humffray Street, Bakery Hill. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting Unbeatable Abilities Support Services.
