BARKLY Square will hold its inaugural open day tomorrow – Saturday 29 March – where visitors can meet tenants, ask questions and learn about opportunities and services.

Barkly Square is a hub led by BGT Jobs and Training Ballarat, where a range of community groups are based such as the Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council, the Ballarat Toy Library, the Ballarat Community Men’s Shed, and more.

“The building has been a hub for learning since 1863 and through efforts of a broad range of stakeholders it’s now a vibrant community hub with around 30 tenants,” BGT Jobs and Training Ballarat manager Emma Hart said.

“In Barkly Square there are various other areas such as meeting rooms, training rooms, a theatre, and a cafe that’s just recently opened.”

The open day, which will run from 10am until 2pm, is free to attend and suitable for all ages.

There will be children’s games and activities, tours, engineering displays, gardening and art workshops, op shopping, food tastings, live music and more.

“The idea of doing the open day was to bring more attention to the community hub and what it can offer to the Ballarat community,” Ms Hart said.

“We wanted to get tenants involved offering various workshops and activities.”

Ms Hart said one of the great things about Barkly Square is that there are diverse groups and things to do in one place.

“There is so much under one roof here,” she said.

“It’s a benefit to come and have a look because there is so much going on and it’s an awareness of what people can come and do.”
