Discover the Town Hall after dark
LOOK behind the scenes of one of Ballarat’s most iconic structures as part of Heritage Festival.
Eerie Tours owner Nathaniel Buchanan will be showing attendees around the Ballarat Town Hall after dark, sharing fascinating stories about the history of the building.
“It’s a 45-minute tour going through the Town Hall and what I call an eerie tour, so it’s not a ghost tour as such, although there are a few ghosts in there,” he said.
“It’s a collection of stories about the Town Hall or events that happened in the building or people who have worked there.
“I have gone through the histories and picked out some weird or quirky stories.”
Mr Buchanan, who also runs cemetery and ghost tours in Ballarat, said this event boasted two of his favourite stories.
Attendees will discover the story of how the first Ballarat Town Hall burned down, as well as a time where pirates visited the region before escaping back to England.
“I’ve told a lot of stories from Ballarat but two of my favourite stories are on this tour and I only get to tell them once a year,” Mr Buchanan said.
He said the tour was a great opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at an iconic Ballarat site.
“The Town Hall is a pretty prominent building in the city and the tours always book out straight away.
“Eerie Tours has built up a bit of the name in the town for delivering quirky products.
“People know they are going to get quality history they might not have heard anywhere else.”
The tour is on Friday, May 17 and May 18. Tickets cost $20 and can be found on the Ballarat Heritage Festival website.
