Distillery debuts flavoured vodkas
FOR the first time, Itinerant Spirits has launched flavoured distilled vodkas that are showcasing local ingredients.
The flavoured Vansetter Vodkas launched last Saturday to mark World Vodka Day, and the small batch, limited release includes two varieties: habanero and lime, and cucumber and mint, as well as a triple sec.
“Cucumber and mint are those fresh flavours,” James Fairlie, head distiller at Itinerant Spirits said.
“We are using fresh cucumber and local river mint to create clean, vibrant flavour that’s perfect for summer.”
For the habanero and lime vodka, Mr Fairlie said he uses two techniques to separate the fruity flavours and spicy elements to ensure there is a consistent flavour profile.
“Habanero has this incredible fruity flavour and for me being a big chilli fan I wanted to highlight that fruity flavour that you actually get from chilli,” Ms Fairlie said.
“If you’re not a tequila fan, if you sub in Vansetta Vodka habanero and lime to any tequila-based cocktails it’s a great alternative.”
Every bottle is created with locally grown grains and proofed with volcanic spring water.
“Vansetter Vodka is made from malted wheat that we get from Western Victoria,” Mr Fairlie said.
“Our wheat gets harvested there and sent to Joe White Maltings in Ballarat and they’ve been here over 150 years
“We collect that grain and take it to our distillery where we process it on site
“Local products keep our spirits honest and grounded. We’re proud to be part of Ballarat’s food and drink community and using local, produce and partnerships helps tell that story.”
