Electrical co awarded for health and safety standards

DMS Electrical Contracting Group has been honoured as part of the National Electrical and Communications Association Victoria Business Excellence Awards.

Last month, the Sebastopol-based company received the Work Health & Safety – Excellence in Action award at a presentation ceremony at Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

DMS Electrical director Daniel Sternberg said he was proud of his business as the only regional company to win an award on the night.

“A workplace should prioritise the health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) of all its workers and stakeholders,” he said.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep the workplace safe.”

Two weeks ago, DMS Electrical Contracting Group was also one of three Trade Business Award finalists at the Federation University Commerce Ballarat Business Excellence Awards night.

The business has been shortlisted in the national NECA Awards which will take place in November.

“Since implementing our customised HSEQ system, and then inducting all our employees in this system we have seen an increase in OHS conversation around the workplace,” said DMS Electrical business manager Kellie Sternberg.

“Employees feel comfortable to talk about how we can continue to keep everyone safe.”

Safe Work Australia has reported one in 12 workers lose at least one week of work as a result of a workplace injury.

The NECA Awards are the electrical and communications industry’s peak awards.
