YOUNG artist Lewis Cotsell has had a year of firsts since he started releasing music under the pseudonym Pri$m earlier this year.

Since March, he’s released his first song, played his first gig and has now rounded out a year of new experiences with his latest single Fatal Attraction which released last week.

Cotsell said the song is a blend of disparate styles and themes.

“To me, the song’s about how you can have an experience with somebody who you know things are going to end badly with but you do it anyway,” he said.

“It’s got a very ethereal sound with a lot of electronic sounds and synths to give it a futuristic, spacey sound with the vocals on top giving it a gentle contrast.

“It clashes but in a cool way.”

Cotsell spent about one month creating the track between September and October.

Fatal Attraction is the followup to Cotsell’s debut song Told You, which has logged more than 17,000 listens on Spotify since releasing in March.

He said the new single signals a different direction in his song writing.

“I’ve had a bit of an issue in not knowing where to go in terms of direction of genre. This song’s a bit different to my first,” he said.

“I think this is the start of a new direction. I don’t know if it’s where I’ll end up but it’s all part of the journey.

“After this one, I want to keep banging out singles as much as I can and hopefully get a good, short catalogue out.

“Within the next month, I want to drop one again.”

Cotsell is billed to headline the Ballarat debut of young artists event Under the Lights, which was originally scheduled for September this year.
