EMMA Conroy has commercially cooked up sweet and savoury treats for the last five years under the name Emma’s Homemade Cakes, winning national gold and silver for her pies.

But last week she hit an even larger personal milestone, launching her first shopfront in Alfredton, Emma’s Bakery.

Ms Conroy said she felt like a “little kid in a lolly shop” as she opened her doors to eager customers on Monday, 5 July.

“There were already people waiting outside at 6am, and our cabinets were nearly empty by midday. I’m so humbled,” she said.

Previously Conroy supplied her pastries, pies, pasties, cakes and slices to venues and stores.

Now she has secured her own large shop, she can connect with her customers face-to-face as they buy their lunch, treats or coffees to eat in, or take away.

“This has been a dream of mine for so long and to see it come to fruition is incredible.

“We have space for six tables and a breakfast bar at the front window with built-in USB chargers for those who want to sit and do some work, and there’s no-hassle free parking out the front,” she said.

“I’m so passionate about bringing local people and great food together.”

Conroy and her team’s next goal is to perfect one of their super sweet recipes.

“We’re working hard on our vanilla slice, which finished fourth in the Great Vanilla Slice Triumph, but we really want to get it into the top three for our new bakery, to give people that extra reason to come in and taste our delicious food,” she said.

Emma’s Bakery can be found at 1769 Sturt St, Alfredton.
