A DIFFERENT kind of motor sport offering is set to arrive in Ballarat later this month as part of the first round in a new championship series.

With more than 70 riders ready to rev their engines at the Ballarat Showgrounds, the inaugural Australian SuperEnduro Championship will bring the endurocross hybrid style to the region.

ASE director Sam Preece said there’ll be a varied program of competitions.

“We’ll have hot laps where the athletes can set their fastest time followed by two six-minute two-lap motocrosses and three back-to-back super sprints which are short high-intensity races from the gate” he said.

“We’ve got three classes of athletes with 20 in each and a veterans’ class with about 10 riders.

“We want to align this as best we can with the American SuperEnduro and World Series SuperEnduro.”

In between the competitions, the event will also include motorcycle photo opportunities, retail stalls and an e-bike challenge course for kids to take part in.

Endurocross debuted in Europe in the 2000s and Mr Preece said the hybrid sport will offer attendees a much more intense kind of motorsport attraction.

“There’s such an action to SuperEnduro. With other motorcycling disciplines, you won’t get the crash rate and the wow factor that we get,” he said.

“Endurocross, if you take it from the style’s number one athlete, is described as if supercross, which is indoor motocross, had a baby with a construction site.

“Instead of a nice dirt up-ramp and down-ramp, we jump from anything from big concrete construction pipes to tractor and excavator tyres, over logs, rocks, all sorts of stuff.”

The Ballarat round of the Australian SuperEnduro Championship is scheduled to run from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, 25 February.

Tickets range from $40 to $179 for general admission and $110 to $375 for VIP prices and can be booked at bit.ly/3jJoMY5.
