BERRINGA’S Sarah Walkerden has been named a finalist in the Regional Business Excellence category of the 2020 AusMumpreneur Awards.

A marketing professional and mother to two young children, Ms Walkerden is The Rural Copywriter, specialising in search engine optimisation website copy.

She is honoured to have reached this part of the awards process, presented by The Women’s Business School, showing resilience with her current marketing brand, following the closure of a previous retail enterprise.

“Conceding defeat with my first business dream was not easy, but I’m proud of the way I bounced back and created this new direction from scratch, so quickly to the point where it’s now comfortably supporting our family,” Ms Walkerden said.

“Persistence pays off. Any perceived ‘failures’ do not need to define you or become your final story. You may have a whole stack of business disasters, or simply a whole stack of ideas that don’t go anywhere, but if you keep on trying and persisting, you can eventually succeed.

“It’s certainly all worthwhile when you do. The trick is to not try to do everything alone, but to ask for help and align yourself with similar and like-minded businesspeople you can learn from, and grow with.”

Previously based in Melbourne, working for government agencies and big companies, Ms Walkerden didn’t always see the immediate and personal results she does now at the helm.

Living the farm dream in Golden Plains alongside her husband, kids and animals, she relishes the flexibility of running her own business and supporting other families in the bush in need of marketing solutions.

“I can pick the kids up from school and be there when they need me. It also allows us to live a fantastic rural lifestyle, our kids have the freedom to explore across the paddocks, to get dirty, ride ponies and learn all about farming, nature and the world around them,” she said.

Winners will be announced during a virtual presentation event next month.
