Enviro org reflects on year’s successes

THE Corangamite Catchment Management Authority, or CCMA, has released its yearly report, with the document detailing the successes of the organisation over the last twelve months.

Achievements include completing the draft masterplan for the Kitjarra-dja- Bullarto Langi-ut project, conducting two cultural burns on Wadawurrung Country and releasing 19 orange-bellied parrots into Lake Connewarre.

The CCMA has also committed to reaching net zero emissions for its operations by next year, making it the first natural resource management organisation in Australia to set this target.

The organisation has continued to work with partners including the maintenance of Memorandums of Understanding with water corporation partners and the signing of an agreement with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.

In July 2022, the community engagement network was relaunched, with 31 representatives selected to advocate for community needs.

“This year’s annual report highlights how important the collaboration between Catchment Management Authorities and communities is,” said chair Cath Jenkins.

“Community engagement and participation in natural resource management in our region is key to achieving our vision of healthy and productive lands and waters cared for by thriving communities.”

Throughout the year, the CCMA held nearly 600 community events and donated over one million dollars in grants.
