ASPIRING musicians are preparing to be part of the Be Hear Now conference this June.

The emerging artists are hard at work identifying their goals and making their next steps towards a career in music.

Jade Moran and Hattie Frdelja’s duo called Iridescence are one of the acts following that path.

They’ve been performing together since school and have recently started gigging in and around Ballarat, as well as spending time recording their first album.

“We both wanted to do a very particular type of music that our peers didn’t really want to do,” said Moran.

“We like to perform 60s and 70s music, no one else really enjoys playing that sort of music.”

The duo decided to get involved in the Be Hear Now program after going to school with one of the coordinators and seeing it on social media.

“I saw they were doing it again this year so we applied because we thought it would be a great opportunity,” said Frdelja.

Moran agreed and said the event seemed to offer a range of benefits and opportunities to performers beginning their journey in the music industry.

“Because we are just starting off, we want to get that experience and those contacts and to get out into the community to garner those contacts,” said Moran.

Both musicians also said they are aiming to be inspirational and hope to show girls and women that they can succeed in the industry with a unique sound.

“There’s definitely not a whole lot of people modelling that 60s and 70s music scene especially for women,” said Frdelja.

Moran said the key to success is making lots of contacts.

“The music industry can be hard to navigate, and employment is really hard but don’t let that hold you back,” she said.

The pair are excited to release their first album and hope the project will aid in developing their skills.

“We are writing an album which we’ve started to record, and we are hoping this project can help us kick off with a potential single release of one of our songs Loving is Hard,” said Frdelja.
