LOCAL author Trudy Adams is celebrating the launch of her new fantasy novel The Crowned Guardians at Kryal Castle.

The book is the third in The Armoured Butterfly series and tells the story of a young female warrior fighting back against an evil cult that’s trying to take over her kingdom.

“It’s sort of fantastical and made up in this other world,” said Adams.

“It’s not just about the battle, it’s about her fears, relationships that are under pressure and to really get to know who you are.”

Adams is an award-winning author with a background in youth work and has a passion for writing about issues faced by teenagers.

“I started writing from a very young age and published my first book at 22 and I’ve been sort of writing ever since,” she said.

“My first four books were Australian young adult fiction about issues that young people face, then I decided to move into this story that’s more adventure but still looking into the issues people face.”

Adams said it’s important to celebrate talented Australian writers.

“We have a lot of talent that’s probably not quite tapped into yet,” she said.

“We can be successful in Australia and we need to celebrate the talent we have here.”

The launch will be held on Saturday 12 August from 2pm at Kryal Castle.

“Kryal Castle is on theme with the book as it’s a medieval kind of adventure series with swords and kings and queens,” said Adams.

“It seemed like a really fun way to have a book launch.”
