CITY of Ballarat officers are beginning a year-long consultation process as part of the Heritage Gaps Review program.

Consultation is now open, and community members are asked to identify historical places in Ballarat which should be protected.

“Ballarat is growing, with our population predicted to increase by 55,000 people by 2041,” said director of development and growth, Natalie Robertson.

“To support this growth, we need to facilitate development, but also ensure that pressure on our valued heritage assets is managed.

“The City of Ballarat will be continually reviewing community feedback from this consultation, to help shape the program of work and prepare for this anticipated growth in our municipality.”

The Heritage Gaps Review program includes several individual projects including an assessment of the existing heritage overlay and new heritage places and precincts.

Consultation is now open on the MySay website where community members can provide feedback, identify the city’s heritage gaps and share stories.

Hard copies will be available at the City of Ballarat customer service centre, all of the city’s libraries and the Visitor Information Centre.
