CATS are heading to Creswick with an art exhibition set to open later this month taking inspiration from cat lover Norman Lindsay.

The exhibition, titled Cats Come to Creswick, features 50 artists and will open at the Creswick Town Hall on Friday 29 September.

The event is a fundraiser for John Curtain Aged Care at Creswick, a not-for-profit and community run organisation.

“Creswick is the home of the very famous Lindsay family and Normal Lindsay in particular loved cats and had around 40 cats when he died,” said board member Sandy Campbell.

“He loved cats, painted cats and gave them humanistic characteristics in his paintings.”

The exhibition will feature a range or artists from around the region from areas such as Daylesford, Ballarat and Maryborough.

The aim of the show is to raise funds to buy a new bus for the aged car facility with all art works for sale and a $5 entry fee for adults.

“We’re hoping to sell lots of art,” said Ms Campbell.

“We already have a bus but it’s starting to reach it’s end and it’s a manual which people are finding quite difficult to drive.

“It’s time to look at upgrading our bus.”

Ms Campbell said it’s important the community continues to support not-for-profit run facilities which have a more hands-on approach with residents.

“We are a volunteer board who are not paid for anything and a drawn largely from around the area,” she said.

“The level of care is better as although it might be an aging facility the board is much more hands on than what you would get in a privately run or government facility.

“We’re there on sight regularly and are involved in various committees on site.”

The exhibition will be open from Friday 29 September until Sunday 1 October from 10am until 4pm.
