A NEW fiery festival will take place at Sovereign Hill later this year.

The program for the inaugural Food, Fire and Light Festival has been revealed and is set to showcase history, art, culture, music and food.

The event will be held across two weekends and is designed to provide an immersive sensory journey under the night sky.

“All of our inspiration at Sovereign Hill comes from the beautiful stories we interpret from history and cultural heritage,” said Sovereign Hill Museums Association CEO Sara Quon.

“Fire was the heart of everything during the goldrush; it brought people together to socialise, cook and survive.

“It was critical from an industry and productivity point of view.”

Visitors’ experiences will commence with a Welcome to Country in the outdoor museum’s new Wadawurrung Cultural Precinct.

“I think it’s a really special time to celebrate our connection to Wadawurrung,” said Ms Quon.

“Our Cultural Precinct will just have launched and we’re celebrating with Food, Fire and Light.”

Central to the festival will be warming food with smoky meats from Oakwood Smallgoods, s’mores and caramelised crème brulé by Morgan Hipworth, and Fettuccine Cacio e Pepe tossed in a wheel of melted Parmigiano Reggiano by Carboni’s Italian Kitchen.

Visitors can walk through a tunnel of fire, see roving performers, and see waterfall pyrotechnics cascading from the Poppet Head.

“It’s the first time that we’ll be opening our new events precinct which is just outside the current museum,” said Ms Quon.

“That will be illuminated as a valley of light, and we are just really excited to see that space come to life.”

The Food, Fire and Light Festival will be on from 5pm to 10pm on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 October, and Friday 18 and Saturday 19 October.

Tickets can be purchased on the Sovereign Hill website.
