Financial firm assists animal shelter
THE Ballarat Animal Shelter has received two-hundred-dollars and supplies as part of a support drive from accounting firm Mulcahy & Co’s local branch.
Marketing director Gavin Nash said the initiative grew from humble beginnings.
“Our social committee organises a different charity for every time we have an event and this time it was casual clothes day,” he said.
“Everyone gave a gold coin and there’s about 90 of us here but our clients walked through, asked what was happening and started donating as well.
“We ended up with a much bigger donation than what our staff would’ve been able to do by themselves.”
Alongside the funds, Mr Nash said the animal shelter was given pet beds, second-hand towels and “trolley-loads” of cat food and dog food.
He said the donation would provide assistance to the shelter and support them in what they do.
“They were telling us they had about 48 cats in their system looking for homes so I think this just takes the stress of them,” he said.
“It’s a council-run facility but the more help they can get from the community, the more chance the animals have got of surviving longer and getting through the adoption process.”
