Find some treasure at townwide garage sale
FOR the tenth non-consecutive year, residents of Creswick and surrounds are being encouraged to open their roller doors and driveways for the annual Creswick Community Garage Sale next month.
Slated to return on Saturday 19 October, funds from the event will be shared between Creswick and District Aquatic Centre, and the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre.
“The aim is to get as many houses onboard to join in having a garage sale,” said neighbourhood centre manager Chrissy Austin.
“We want as many households involved so people can find little treasures and have less things go to landfill.
“Normally the [Creswick and District Aquatic Centre] does it but we’re babysitting it this year so we’ll share the proceeds to help run our programs. They’re long-term campaigning to get an indoor aquatic centre for Creswick.”
Those interested in taking part can register at the post office or the town’s information centre, as well as the neighbourhood centre from 7 October, for $20.
Participating households will feature on a map released on the day of the event, which will coincide with the Creswick Market.
Those not wishing to open up their garages can instead hire a table at the market.
The garage sale made its return last year after a nearly half-decade hiatus, and Ms Austin said it was a welcome success.
“Last year they had 55 stalls so we’re wanting more for this one,” she said.
“We’ll have a book where people will fill out their details and we just put out a list of addresses.
“We encourage people to come up with a list of five to seven interesting or big-ticket items which will go on the list as well so people can know what they’re coming to look for.”
The map of participating households will be available for $5 at the Queen Victoria Bandstand from 8am, as well as at the Creswick Market from 9am to 1pm on the day of the event.
