THE major fundraising event for one of the region’s CFA brigades is set to return next month after a four-year hiatus.

Members of the Maude Fire Brigade’s auxiliary group are preparing to revive their Trash and Treasure community event at the Maude Recreation Reserve

Auxiliary president Keely Bubb said the event will be a welcome return for the team.

“We do lots of fundraising throughout the year and this is our traditional one we haven’t been able to do the last few years due to COVID,” she said.

“With stalls, we have the Maude, Meredith and Districts Landcare Group, we have a young girl who makes jewellery as Tilly Pearl Earrings, and we’ve got the Bean Cravin’ coffee van.”

A trailer-load of wood chopped by brigade members will be up for grabs as part of the event’s traditional raffle at $2 per ticket.

A stall featuring white elephant toys donated by community members will be on offer, and people are encouraged to drop theirs off at the Maude Fire Station prior to the event.

The funds raised from the trash and treasure will go towards upgrading the oldest truck in the brigade’s Hino fleet, and Ms Bubb said she’s hopeful its return will help them reach their goal.

“This is definitely a main revenue raiser for us and that’s why it’s been really difficult for us the last couple of years because we haven’t been able to run anything like this,” she said.

“We’re hoping there’s a good turnout, that people haven’t forgotten about this so we can raise a fair bit of money to keep our community safe and get the best equipment for our firies.”

The Maude Trash and Treasure event is set to return on Sunday, 7 May from 9am to 2pm.
