Flag flown for independence

THE colours of green and white were flown in front of Town Hall on Monday morning as part of an event celebrating Pakistani independence.

The event was the second flag-raising occasion from the City of Ballarat to acknowledge Pakistan’s sovereignty from the British Raj on 14 August 1947 following the celebration of its platinum jubilee last year.

More than 30 people attended the event, with deputy-mayor Cr Amy Johnson serving as MC and guest speakers including Pakistan-Australian, Obaid Noor.

The event was followed by a morning tea in Town Hall’s Trench Room.
