FLOOD mitigation works will soon begin in Cardigan Village and Miners Rest with a focus on upgrading stormwater systems, improving water flow management and implementing engineered solutions.
The City of Ballarat has adertised a tender for designing the Cardigan Village flood mitigation project after flood modelling was completed to identify hot spots.
The successful contractor will design four flood protection measures for assessment and consideration.
Updated flood modelling has also been completed at Miners Rest and a concept design is being completed.
A civil design consultant will be engaged this year to further develop the concept design.
“We are committed to taking action to help reduce flood risks and provide long-term storm resilience for Cardigan Village and Miners Rest,” Cr Jim Rinaldi said.
“The project teams will consult with local residents throughout the process at key stages to keep them updated on developments and address any questions.”
This year’s City budget included $6.5 million for drainage projects such as the Cardigan Village flood mitigation project and for the Miners Rest drainage plan.
