WITH temperatures dropping, people across the region are probably turning their minds towards how to stay warm over the next few months.

In that case, local sustainability group Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions (BREAZE), and energy efficiency expert Dale Boucher can help.

BREAZE and Mr Boucher are presenting a series of three sessions on how households can beat the cold without burning through their budgets in a program called Home Energy Game Plan.

The first session took place on Tuesday, but two others are scheduled for 3 and 10 June from 7.30pm to 9pm at Barkly Square, 25-39 Barkly Street, in Ballarat East.

While the workshops are free, numbers are limited so bookings are essential. Places can be secured through the Eventbrite website.

“You don’t need a big renovation budget or a fancy solar setup to stay warm and cut costs,” Mr Boucher said.

“We’ll walk you through easy, low-cost things you can do around the house that make a huge difference – from draught sealing to smarter appliance use.

“It’s knowledge that can genuinely change how people experience winter.”

The sessions cover what wastes the most energy in homes, what changes offer the biggest return, and how to stay comfortable without relying on expensive heating.

“BREAZE has been supporting local sustainability for nearly two decades, and this series is all about giving everyone the tools to make their homes warmer, cheaper to run and more efficient,” BREAZE vice-president Sally Missing said.

Efficiency expert Dale Boucher knows all about how to stay comfortable without breaking the bank.

“Whether you rent or own, whether you’re living solo or raising a family, there’s something here that’ll make your life easier this winter.”

Mr Boucher will share tips on how to seal sneaky draughts and insulate on a budget, which appliances are costing more than they should and what to do about it, and easy do-it-yourself tricks that can make a difference.

He will also offer advice on how people can make the most of their existing heating system, and explain what rebates and support are available to help save money.

BREAZE is a volunteer-run community organisation working to support practical climate solutions and cleaner, more affordable living for Ballarat and surrounds.
