Funding to protect fish in Barwon and Moorabool rivers
The funds from the Federal Governments urban rivers and catchment program will be used to build fishways to allow the animals to move up and down the rivers to feed and breed.
“This is a fantastic investment by the Australian Government that will improve connectivity of these vital urban waterways and allow native fish to move and thrive, including the threatened migratory Australian Grayling,” Corangamite CMA CEO Dr Amber Clarke said.
Fishways will be constructed at Batesford Weir, Buckley Falls and Baum’s Weir, and are due to be completed by February 2028.
The projects will involve collaboration with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, community groups, local government, Heritage Victoria and other State Government authorities.
