THE Buninyong Landscape Alliance with the Yarrowee Leigh Catchment Group are set to receive more than seven hundred thousand dollars in funding.

An announcement confirming the money was made by member for Eureka, Michaela Settle, last week and the funding will come from the State Government’s Green Links grants program.

The grant will be used to help revegetate 13 sites in Ballarat by creating wildlife corridors, urban cooling, habitat, and hopefully increase biodiversity along the Yarrowee River.

The project is designed to support areas which have been impacted due to urbanisation and been degraded.

“The Yarrowee River runs through the very heart of Ballarat and we need to protect its ecosystem so that it remains a place for all of the community to enjoy,” said Ms Settle.

Consultation will be conducted in relation to pant mapping, weed control, planting, and the installation of habitat logs, as well as community events and workshops.

In total, the State Government is investing $10 million in the green links program over three years.

It is hoped the initiative will create up to 300 hectares of revegetated land for communities and wildlife in Victoria.
