Gallery framing artist’s return
A PROLIFIC Ballarat-based artist has made his return to local exhibiting after about a decade-long absence.
With his previous Ballarat show held at Macarthur Frameworks and Gallery, Jon Crawley currently has more than 100 pieces on display at Accent Framing and Fine Art.
Initially intending to exhibit in the space in 2020, Crawley said it felt “about time” he made his local re-emergence.
“This seems to have promoted quite a lot of interest from people in the region,” he said. “I guess I’ve developed a bit of notoriety around town.
“They’re mainly watercolour works which I’ve spent about 65 years doing. You learn how to control it but you never learn how to master it.
“It’s what I call a living medium, it’s got a life of its own. You’re dependent on water content, air temperature, the amount of water on the brush and paper.
“I particularly like doing landscape and architectural stuff. I come from that traditional school of artists.”
Amie Murphy, owner of Accent Framing and Fine Art, said it’s wonderful to have their space host Crawley’s works.
“We’re very privileged to have Jon here exhibiting,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of interest from the public and made a few big sales here already.
“People love his work and he’s just such an amazing and versatile artist.”
Crawley will be painting onsite during the exhibition’s last day on Saturday, 25 February, which coincides with the first anniversary of Accent Framing and Fine Art operating under new management.
