GARDEN lovers will be in paradise with next weekend’s series of open gardens hosted by the Creswick Garden Club.

The Garden Lovers Weekend is on for its eighth year on Saturday 11 November and Sunday 12 November.

Seven private gardens will be on display for the public to enjoy including sustainable gardens, gardens in the country, and some located in town.

“It was first designed by Creswick Business and Tourism and the owner of the Tangled Maze, Julie Morrison,” said Creswick Garden Club committee member Margaret Giles.

“She saw the opportunity for the region to be promoted and it grew from that.”

The initiative is supported by the Hepburn Shire due to the economic benefits it brings to the community and local businesses.

All funds raised from the weekend go into projects for Creswick such as resigning trails and producing brochures about the region.

“Now Business and Tourism are in the process of finishing signage at Australasia number two which is the site of Australia’s worst goldmining disaster,” said Ms Giles.

Members of the garden club will decide where this year’s funds will be directed following the event.

Ms Giles said one of the best aspects of the event is the way it brings the community together.

“Gardeners are lovely people, and they share, they are interested and they like talking,” she said.

“Everybody is happy to share knowledge and one of the comments people always say is that they love the community feel of the event.”

Tickets cost $6 per garden and can be purchased online until Friday 10 November or in person at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre Hall on the day and more information visit creswickgardenclub.com.
