Spare some room for learning on the side of lunch if you’d like to know a little more about the creative arts and social media.

On Friday, 12 Febraury, Creative Ballarat are hosting the second instalment in its Lunchtime Workshop Series this time hosting a series of creative minds on a public forum.

In addition to producer Kate Berry and visual artist Rach Jackson, ceramicist Ruby Pilven will be speaking at the event, aiming to answer questions and offer advice about utilising social media for creative avenues.

“Social media is incredibly important to a creative or artist as it serves various functions including communication, connection, collaboration and community,” Ms Pilven said.

“It enables creatives to not only show and educate the community with their skills and knowledge but it also builds bonds and opportunities.

“It is not just to be seen and noticed but is a valuable tool to allow new connections and inspire others.”

The forum will seek to answer queries about making the most of promoting via social media channels and digital platforms, breaking through the algorithm, selling work and building an online presence.

Ms Pilven said whether online or not, it’s important that art is actively promoted in regional areas.

“It’s important because there is a lot of hidden talent that sometimes can go unnoticed and social media allows people from other regions and cities to see this talent and want to visit,” she said.

“It’s also a great way, on a local level for smaller communities to get to know their fellow creatives and support one another.”
