Get your skates on for fitness
GET rolling this summer by joining Roller Skate Fit Club’s eight-week program for adults.
No experience is required to join the group which meets on Sundays at Doug Dean Reserve.
“Roller Skate Fit Club came out of the Ballarat Roller Derby League as what we realised around 10 years ago was that we needed a place people could come where they felt comfortable and we could teach people,” said head coach Rachael Silverman.
“We teach you everything you need to know about being on skates and it’s a nice opportunity for people to come together.”’
Each eight-week block costs participants $70 with insurance also required to keep attendees and teachers safe.
All equipment is available for hire.
Aside from the fitness benefits of skating, Ms Silverman said participants love the social aspect.
“I’ve seen phenomenal growth in not only people’s skating ability but also their confidence, sense of self and fun and enjoyment they’re coming in with,” she said.
“A lot of our members talk about the community that Fit Skate has and the friendships they have made are some of the highlights of their week.”
Ms Silverman encouraged anyone to come along even if they are a bit nervous about trying skating.
“People show up on night one and they’re really nervous and completely out of their comfort zone, and that’s totally normal,” she said.
“Our coaches and the cohort of core Fit Skate members are so lovely and happy to help out.”
The first session will take place Sunday 21 January from 6.30pm and to find out more visit rsk8fitclub.com.au.
