Golden gin seeks to prompt reflection
A NEW gin has been launched by Sovereign Hill in collaboration with Kilderkin Distillery.
Gilded Grog gin is created with a mix of flavours including juniper, coriander seed, lemon myrtle, lemon aspen and wattle blossom as well as 24-carat gold flakes.
“This is an opportunity to connect people in a really interesting way which prompts reflection,” said Sovereign Hill deputy CEO Katrina Nitschke.
“We wanted to create a partner to Sly Gorg because people loved it, and it tastes so good.
“We wanted to work with Kilderkin Distillery because they are Ballarat people through and through and they make their gin here.”
The creation has historical inspiration and is designed to pay homage to the women of the Goldfields who sold sly grog to support their families.
“We do have stories of a lot of men on the Goldfields and until recently they were the stories that were predominantly told,” said Ms Nitschke.
“We know that women were very present on the goldfields and very economically active.
“They were not living quiet lives in cottages invisible and away from the streets.”
All proceeds from the sales of Gilded Grog will go back into the museum and more information about the gin can be found on the Sovereign Hill website.
