Golden Plains Shire council meeting heads online

April 26, 2020 BY

The next Golden Plains Shire council meeting, set for Tuesday, 28 April will be a little different.

For the first time the municipality will broadcast the meeting on the internet as a way of limiting the need for people to attend in person.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shire’s made changes to elements of council meetings, including no longer holding them in the small spaces of the Bannockburn Shire building or Linton Customer Service Centre, and not running a public question time but responding to received enquiries the next day in writing.

For the March meeting council opted to use the main hall at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre in ensure appropriate personal distancing. The next meeting will also be held at the same venue.

Now the municipality will go one step further, streaming the April meeting on YouTube so people can still see what’s going on, without the need to be in the room.

Further changes could also be in the offing, with the State government set to move legislation that would allow for council meetings to be held completely online, with councillors taking part via video link.

The next council meeting is set for Tuesday, 28 April at 6pm, you can find the live stream by searching YouTube for Golden Plains Shire.
