Golden plans for pavilion on the Hill
SOVEREIGN Hill’s upcoming Gold Pavilion development has received further funding from the State Government.
The living museum has been allocated $500,000 from the Enabling Tourism Fund 2024 to create designs for a new entry precinct.
Plans for the Gold Pavilion were first released as part of a master plan unveiled on Sovereign Hill’s 50th anniversary in 2020.
The aim of the pavilion, to be built at the entrance to the outdoor museum, is to house a digital immersive Gold Vault experience, a Welcome to Country section, updated amenities and a retail set-up.
Sovereign Hill Museums Association CEO Sara Quon welcomed the funding last week during a visit from the Member for Eureka Michaela Settle and the Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison.
“With the support of this funding, our architectural design for the Gold Pavilion will come to life, featuring a revolutionary Gold Vault experience and a newly designed arrival and orientation zone,” said Ms Quon.
“This investment will enable us to redefine visitor engagement and set a new standard in immersive, inclusive design predicted to attract up to 100,000 new visitors a year to Ballarat.”
Member for Eureka Michaela Settle emphasised Sovereign Hill’s icon status, not only in Ballarat and Victoria, but across Australia.
“It’s an iconic tourist destination and has been an important part of Ballarat for many years,” she said.
“This funding will mean they can deliver a unique and exciting experience for kids and families for years to come.”
