Grain donations to help FECRI
GRAIN for Hope, a project launched in 2021 between CHS Broadbent and the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute is asking for donations to support cancer research at the Ballarat facility.
FECRI Institute director Professor George Kannourakis was thrilled by farmers’ generosity last year and hopes this time around will be as, or more, successful.
“We as an organisation plan and rely heavily on a number of fundraising events throughout the year as well as the generous support of the community,” he said.
“We’re thrilled to continue to work with CHS Broadbent to provide a simple avenue for farmers to support this research.”
As part of the effort farmers donate grains to FECRI which are then sold to raise money, and last year Buangor’s Nigel Hooke donated oats to the project.
“I got behind it as my wife is recovering from breast cancer and this is simply a good thing to do,” he said.
“The process was very easy to do. Simpler even than writing a cheque or getting online.”
CHS Broadbent kicked off this year’s fundraising with 100 tonnes of grain and has encouraged farmers who have reserves to donate.
“Cancer has touched everyone in our community in some way, whether it’s a family member, a close friend, a client, or all of the above,” said company CEO Michael Broadbent.
“We’re really happy to continue this initiative with the Fiona Elsey Institute to help raise funds and help grow a cancer-free future.
“Donations can be made via the CHS Broadbent Grower Portal by selecting Grain for Hope as the buyer when transferring tickets.
“All donations are tax-deductible and 100 per cent of the grain value goes to cancer research, after levies are deducted.”
FECRI is Australia’s only regional cancer research centre and is not government funded.
